Phu Quoc isn't just another beach island. It's a place where pristine white-sand beaches meet real tropical jungle, world-class pearl farms, and authentic Vietnamese village life. Seven days is the perfect amount of time to experience the best of the island — without rushing and with plenty of time to relax. This itinerary is built on years of local expertise and refined by 500+ guests who've stayed with us since 2018.

Day 1: Arrival, Check-in, Long Beach Sunset

Keep your first day light — give yourself time to settle in and soak up the island atmosphere. After checking in to your apartment, grab a local SIM card (Viettel or Vietnamobile, $5–7 with 10GB data) and rent a scooter ($5–8/day) — this will be your main transport for the week. Most apartment operators, including us, can arrange both on your behalf.

Afternoon: Head straight to Long Beach — Phu Quoc's main beach and a 20-km stretch of sand along the west coast. The water is warm and clear, sunbeds are free or $1–2, and beach bars serve cold drinks and fresh coconuts all day long.

Sunset (5:30–6:30pm): Long Beach faces west — perfect for sunsets. Grab a cocktail at one of the beachfront bars ($3–6) and watch the sky turn orange and purple over the Gulf of Thailand. This is genuinely one of Southeast Asia's best sunset spots and a ritual you'll want to repeat every evening.

Evening — Duong Dong Night Market: Walk to the Night Market (open 6pm–11pm) for dinner. Must-try: grilled squid and tiger prawns ($5–12), Vietnamese fresh spring rolls nem cuon ($1–2), bánh xèo sizzling pancakes, and sugar cane juice ($0.50). The atmosphere is lively, fragrant, and very local.

Day 2: Phu Quoc National Park + Da Ban Waterfall

Day two takes you into the wild heart of the island. Phu Quoc National Park covers over 31,000 hectares of pristine tropical rainforest — one of the last largely undisturbed jungle ecosystems in Vietnam. It's home to black bears, wild boar, pythons, and over 150 bird species including rare endemic ones. The park is a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve and genuinely unlike anything else in this part of Southeast Asia.

Da Ban Waterfall (Suoi Tranh): The star attraction of the national park. A cascading multi-tiered waterfall surrounded by dense jungle where you can swim in the natural rock pools. Entry is about $1. Getting there takes 15–20 minutes by scooter from Duong Dong. The walk through the forest to the waterfall takes about 20 minutes and is well-signposted.

Jungle trails: The park has walking trails for different fitness levels — from easy 30-minute family strolls to challenging multi-hour hikes. A local guide ($15–25) is strongly recommended if you want to spot wildlife and get off the main path. Look out for long-tailed macaques — they're common near the trail entrances.

Pepper plantations: On your way to or from the park, stop at one of Phu Quoc's famous black pepper farms. Kampot-style pepper from this region is considered among the finest in the world. You can buy it directly from the farmer for $3–5 per pack — far cheaper and more authentic than anything you'll find in tourist shops.

Evening: Return to town for dinner. Try bánh canh cá — Phu Quoc's signature thick-noodle fish soup ($2–3), found at small local eateries away from the main tourist strip on Tran Hung Dao Street.

Day 3: Pearl Farm Tour + Cooking Class + Duong Dong Night Market

Phu Quoc has been famous for pearl cultivation for over a century. The island's warm, mineral-rich coastal waters produce Akoya, South Sea, and freshwater pearls that are exported worldwide. A pearl farm visit is one of the most genuinely interesting and educational experiences on the island — and completely different from anything you'd do elsewhere.

Pearl farm tour (morning): The two main farms are Ngoc Hien Pearl Farm and Phu Quoc Pearl, both easily reachable by scooter. Tours last 1–1.5 hours and walk you through the full pearl cultivation cycle — from oyster seeding to pearl extraction. Entry: $3–5. The on-site shops sell pearl jewelry at competitive prices ($10–200 depending on size and quality). You'll also see pearl earrings, necklaces, and bracelets being made by hand.

Cooking class (afternoon, optional): Phu Quoc is a paradise for food lovers. If you're keen, sign up for a Vietnamese cooking class ($25–40 for 3–4 hours). You'll visit the local fish market with your instructor to choose fresh ingredients, then learn to prepare classics like pho bo, goi cuon (fresh rolls), and banh xeo. Most classes end with eating what you've cooked — a delicious reward.

Duong Dong Night Market (evening): This is Phu Quoc's top evening experience. The market runs from 6pm to 11pm in the heart of Duong Dong town, with dozens of stalls surrounding an atmospheric central space. What to eat and buy:

• Grilled seafood — squid, crab, tiger prawns, lobster ($5–20 depending on size)
• Banh xeo — sizzling Vietnamese savoury pancakes ($1–2)
• Bun quay — local noodle soup with seafood, Phu Quoc's own specialty ($2–3)
• Tropical fruit platters — mango, mangosteen, rambutan, dragon fruit ($1–3)
• Nuoc mam (fish sauce) — Phu Quoc's most famous product ($2–8, makes a great souvenir)

Day 4: An Thoi Islands Snorkeling Day Trip + Sao Beach

Day four is the most action-packed of the week and a highlight for almost every visitor. The An Thoi Archipelago — 15 islands scattered off Phu Quoc's southern tip — has the best coral reefs in the region. The waters here are protected, remarkably clear, and teeming with marine life. Visibility can exceed 10 metres during the dry season.

What to expect on the water: Standard tours visit 3–4 reef sites over half a day. You'll swim above living coral gardens and encounter clownfish, parrotfish, sea urchins, starfish, sea turtles (if you're fortunate), and dozens of tropical species. The guide points out the best spots and helps beginners feel comfortable. Non-swimmers can use flotation aids provided on board.

Lunch on the boat: Most tours include a fresh seafood lunch cooked on board — steamed rice, grilled fish, shrimp, and vegetables with dipping sauce. Vietnamese beer is usually available at $1–2 extra. The floating lunch with ocean views is a highlight in itself. Eating grilled snapper with your feet dangling over warm turquoise water is a hard moment to beat.

Sao Beach (afternoon): After returning from the snorkeling tour, you're right near Sao Beach — stop here for the afternoon. The powdery white sand and vivid turquoise water make it the most photogenic beach on the island. Rent a sunbed ($2–3), grab a fresh coconut ($1), and decompress after an active morning. Several restaurants here serve live seafood directly from tanks.

Day 5: Sao Beach Full Day + Explore Duong Dong Town

You got a taste of Sao Beach yesterday — today you give it the full-day treatment it deserves. Consistently ranked among Asia's top ten beaches, Bai Sao lives up to the hype: the sand is so fine and white it's almost blinding in the midday sun, and the water shifts from turquoise near the shore to deep blue further out. It's among the best beaches in all of Vietnam.

Morning (arrive early): Be at Sao Beach by 8:00–9:00am, before the day-trip tour groups arrive by minibus. In the morning the beach is peaceful and virtually empty. The sea is warm year-round (27–29°C) and very calm on this south-eastern coast, making it ideal for swimming even for children and non-confident swimmers.

Afternoon back in Duong Dong: Return to the main town around 3:00–4:00pm. Spend an hour walking through the real Duong Dong — the working fishing harbour where boats unload their catch, the local covered market, and the backstreets where everyday Vietnamese life plays out far from tourist eyes. The fish market near the river is especially atmospheric in the late afternoon when the day boats come in.

Vietnamese massage: Treat yourself to a traditional Vietnamese massage ($8–15/hour). There are dozens of reputable massage parlours along the main strip and side streets in Duong Dong. After a day of swimming and riding, your muscles will genuinely thank you. Look for places that list prices clearly outside — a sign of legitimacy.

Evening: Catch the sunset once more on Long Beach. Dinner on Tran Hung Dao Street, the main dining strip: try a seafood restaurant with a terrace, or a local noodle shop for pho or bun bo Hue. Portions are generous and prices are very reasonable.

Day 6: Grand World + Shopping + Local Restaurants

Day six is for shopping, local culture, and a spectacular evening at Phu Quoc's most extravagant entertainment complex. Use the morning and afternoon for souvenirs and local market experiences, then cap the night at Grand World — a place that needs to be seen to be believed.

What to buy in Phu Quoc (morning shopping):

• Phu Quoc fish sauce (nuoc mam) — the island's most iconic product, aged in wooden barrels ($3–10). The 40-degree concentration is the one to buy.
• Black and red pepper — straight from island plantations, significantly superior to imported varieties ($3–8 per pack)
• Pearl jewelry — only from certified farms with authenticity paperwork ($10–300 depending on quality)
• Vietnamese coffee (ca phe) — ground or whole bean, excellent quality and very affordable ($5–15)
• Pearl powder skincare products — moisturisers, serums and face masks made locally ($5–20)
• Silk scarves and lacquerware — handmade decorative items and gifts ($5–30)

Grand World (evening): This sprawling 85-hectare entertainment resort is modelled on European canal towns — think Venice-style waterways, colourful townhouse facades, arched bridges, and gondolas — but with Vietnamese cuisine and tropical weather. Entry is completely free. In the evenings there are dazzling light shows projected onto the buildings, live street performances, fire dancers, and a buzzing atmosphere. It's Instagrammable to an extreme degree and very popular with Vietnamese families on weekends.

Dining at Grand World: The complex has dozens of restaurants ranging from Vietnamese street food stalls to international cuisine. Budget around $8–25 per main course at sit-down restaurants. For the full experience, choose a table at a canalside restaurant and time your dinner to coincide with the 8pm light show — it's genuinely spectacular.

Day 7: Morning Swim, Departure

Your last day on the island. Most flights from Phu Quoc depart in the afternoon or evening, which generously gives you one final morning. Don't waste it sleeping in — there are few better ways to start the day than a swim in the Gulf of Thailand.

Early morning swim: Set an alarm for 6:00am and head to Long Beach for sunrise or early morning light. The beach is completely empty at this hour, the light is golden and soft, and the water is perfectly calm. Stay until 8:00–9:00am, when it starts getting busy. There's something genuinely moving about a final swim in a place this beautiful before heading home to real life.

Breakfast: Vietnamese-style breakfast at a local café near the beach: banh mi with fried egg ($1–2) and ca phe sua da — Vietnamese iced coffee with condensed milk ($1–2). Simple, cheap, and a taste combination you'll find yourself craving for months after your trip.

Before you go: If there are any remaining souvenirs to buy, the airport terminal has a small duty-free section with fish sauce, pepper, and Vietnamese coffee — prices are reasonable. Return your scooter to the rental shop (most operators will collect it from your apartment for free). Arrange your taxi or Grab to the airport (10–15 minutes, $5–8). Arrive at least 2 hours before international flights, 90 minutes before domestic.

Seven days on Phu Quoc will fly by, and you'll leave already thinking about when you can return. Many of our guests come back two, three, even four times — the island has a way of doing that to people. Once you've watched the sun melt into the sea from Long Beach with a cocktail in hand, it's hard to forget.
